This past week I have taken part in a "No spend week" with my friend Hannah. We tried to plan ahead and pick a week that would be feasible for us, but quickly realized that no week was a good week for us to start due to vacations, bridal obligations and so on so Monday morning I woke up and said lets start. Which brings me to my first lesson of a no spend week.
1. Plan ahead: I did not plan anything for this no spend week including meal wise. I lived off of tyson's chicken nuggets for lunch for most of the week, but it taught me how important it is for me to slow down for a little bit during the day. I usually work straight through lunch and by 3:00 I am starved, and a microwave meal or Chick fil a is my best bet. This week I was able to go into the kitchen, find something to cook and binge some tv while it cooked. I actually had a lunch break y'all. Before going full time, I had a designated lunch break at my job where I was not expected to do anything for an hour, that is so not the case anymore.
2. Think before you buy: I am SUCH an impulse shopper and most of the time I end up with things I 100% did not need. Clothes, shoes, notebooks, etc. This week has really taught me to stop and think about what I am buying. Amazon prime has made it so easy for me to click a button and have something at my door in 2 days but this week I took a little break and I can't even imagine the money I saved by doing so. Trust me I have been SO tempted with emails such as "today is the last day to save" and "you left something in your cart", but I kept my focus on my goals and kept on scrolling.
3. Reflection: Not only did I want to stop spending money because I kinda lost my mind last Sunday out shopping... but I have serious goals in mind. I worked so hard to be able to do what I am doing now and I just want to grow it even bigger. I spent some time writing out my goals for the future and what I need to do to achieve them. I found myself getting more done this week without the spending. There were no random trips to target because I needed a new notebook, no online shopping for dresses I will literally wear once, instead I focused completely on my business and it was the best feeling!!
Now this challenge has definitely not been a one time life changing event, I already have a date with my card first thing Monday morning but it is a step in the right direction and I will continue my no spend weeks every now and again!
